Direct Access in the Commonwealth of Virginia means that you as a patient can
seek physical therapy for your recent injury or long standing condition without
needing a prescription from your doctor, provided you have not been evaluated
through Direct Access in the three months prior. Most insurance companies recognize
the Direct Access Certification issued by the Virginia Board of Physical Therapy
and pay their portion for treatment based on your policy. When you elect to come
to therapy through this option you must identify a physician from whom you will
seek treatment if you are not discharged from treatment or your treatment needs
to extend past fourteen business days. Upon your initial evaluation our therapist
will be in communication with your doctor providing documentation of your initial
evaluation and diagnosis. Frequently in consultation with our therapist your doctor
may prescribe physical therapy for your condition without your needing to arrange a
doctor's visit to seek further therapy, thereby extending your treatment. We strive
to ensure the relationships we have with patients and doctors are based upon confidence
in our communication and our experience as licensed therapists, and trust in the value
we place in each individual and in the patient outcomes routinely achieved at Advantage
Physical Therapy & Sports Performance.
